The Gitxaala First Nation community will have a new ferry service that will run between Kitkatla and Prince Rupert  in 2022.

Deputy Chief  Councillor Bruce Innes said after many discussions about the design and build of the ferry, the Gitxaala community has decided to keep the purpose of the ferry to easy transportation

"You can only get out of here by ferry, you can only get out of here by plane, and its a two hour ride. Alot of our people shop in Prince Rupert for their groceries and alot was getting left behind in Prince Rupert because their capacity wasn't there. This new ferry we're looking at has a 10 thousand pounds of carrying capacity."

The design contract for the vessel has been awarded to 3GA Marine, and the build contract is awarded to Commodore Boats Ltd.
