More recalls due to salmonella concerns

Several sandwiches and other prepared items sold at Copperside outlets in the Northwest are among additions over the weekend to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's recall of onion products.

The updated list posted online includes the Skeena Select barbecue beef sub, pizza sub, broccoli salad and chicken quesadilla with best before dates up to and including August 10th or 11th.

A number of salads and sandwiches sold in Safeway and other BC stores -- along with onions themselves -- have also been recalled due to an outbreak of salmonella linked to onions from Thomson International in Bakersfield, California.

The BC Centre for Disease Control says 69 cases of salmonella linked to onions have been reported in the province since mid-June.
