Northern Health declares second COVID-19 outbreak at Acropolis Manor

Northern Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak for the west pod at Acropolis Manor in Prince Rupert.

So far, two residents have tested positive for the virus.

This is the second outbreak to hit the long-term care home this year. From January 16th to March 16th, a facility-wide outbreak at the manor resulted in 33 residents and 24 staff members testing for the virus. Sadly, 16 residents passed away in association with this outbreak.

Moving forward, Northern Health will be proactively testing residents to identify anyone who may be infected in this second outbreak.

To prevent further transmission, the health authority will be increasing COVID-19 screening, enhancing cleaning measures, temporarily suspending non-essential social visits, and restricting staff and resident movement

A COVID-19 outbreak is also ongoing at the Patient Care Unit at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital. Three individuals have tested positive in this outbreak so far. Both of these outbreaks are currently the only ongoing outbreaks in the Northern Health region.
