The holidays are about giving, and with all the changes this year has brought upon , Rio Tinto had to cancel their end of year Holiday celebration because of the pandemic.

But they found a creative way to say thank you to their employees, retirees and their families.

In a Facebook post, they stated they're partnering up with the Terrace and Kitimat Chambers of Commerce and Support Local BC to hand out gift cards to be spent at local businesses, returning close to $100 000 into the local economy.

They said "over the holiday season, we have a chance to help the local businesses that make Kitimat and Terrace vibrant places to live. "

They couldn't think of a better way to do so while also thanking their employees "for their unparalleled resilience in 2020, ensuring the success of their business and protecting the health and safety of all their people."
