CityWest has delivered its annual distribution payment to the City of Prince Rupert, and the size of that cheque has once again gone up.
The local telecom company provided the city with $800,000.
In contrast, it provided it with $700,000 in 2020 and $600,000 in 2019.
The City of Prince Rupert is CityWest’s sole shareholder.
“Our amazing staff overcame myriad challenges last year, and they worked hard to ensure 2021 was yet another successful year for CityWest,” said CityWest CEO Stefan Woloszyn, CEO of CityWest.
“We laid the groundwork for a variety of opportunities that will come to fruition in 2022, and in the years ahead to ensure the strength and stability of our company in a very competitive industry.”
This comes during a time of growth for CityWest.
Last year, the company announced expansions into Haida Gwaii and several coastal communities like Hartley Bay and Cortes Island.
These expansions will be made possible thanks to the Connected Coast project, an in-development undersea fibre cable that will provide high speed internet to communities along BC’s coast.
The company’s also grew its workforce by 33 per cent as well.
“The continued expansion of CityWest into new and remote areas of Northern and Coastal BC, despite the COVID pandemic, is a real testament to the strength of this local company,” said Prince Rupert City Manager Rob Buchan.
“For another year, they are continuing to support their home community through this increased dividend payment, as well as by employing local people and contributing to local causes.”
