If you're looking for a family-friendly way to kick off the holiday season this weekend, look no further.
On Friday and Saturday evening, the Dr. REM Lee Hospital Foundation is hosting their 6th annual Festival of Trees.
Heather Bellamy of the Foundation has been working on getting the festival underway;
"We have invited our local businesses to decorate mini trees and wreaths donated by Canadian Tire, and they return them to us up-valued, some of them $100, $200, $300 worth of value on the tree and the wreath. And, you're welcome to come in, take a look around, go through the cabins, and then you end up at the hotel in the museum. And that's where we're selling raffle tickets, where you can win one of these beautiful trees or wreaths, and bring it home."
Admission is just $2, and Ron Bartlett of the Foundation says all proceeds are going to a great cause.
"Our fundraiser now is for a $70,000 Omni-bed care station. And it's basically an incubator for the new neonatal ICU. And that's a cool thing, that came through our foundation when we had Northern Health come to a meeting and say that we know we need it in the area, but we can't afford it. Can you help us out? So we did. $14 million project that the hospital foundation started and we're finishing. It's now ready almost to open up. So this care station, the Omni-bed, will be part of the equipment used in that Neonatal ICU. So come and join us. Lots of fun. Christmas spirit is here. Bring your family and, join us and help us to assist the new hospital in the neonatal ICU and fundraising for that Omni-bed."
The festival runs this Friday November 29th from 4-8pm and Saturday, Nov 30th from 11am to 6pm
