99 residents of the Sherbrooke Apartments in Prince Rupert had their Christmas morning plans turn disastrous as they were forced to evacuate their homes due to fire.
In a statement released by the city, they say the Prince Rupert Fire Department and Emergency Support Services responded to a fire at approximately 3 am on Christmas morning impacting 99 residents across 36 units of the Sherbrooke Apartments.
The city says that everyone was safely evacuated, and have been relocated to local hotels by Emergency Services.
They say the cause of the fire and extent of the damages is still under investigation.
The city also stated that the Salvation Army will be serving food to evacuees, and that donations of essential items - such as toiletries, hygiene supplies, diapers, bottles, and formula, can be donated to the Salvation Army in Prince Rupert to reach evacuees as well.
