As reads from his obituary, Dennis MacKay was born in Edmonton, Alberta on March 23, 1942. He served 28 years as an RCMP officer, from which he recieved a commendation and a Long Service Medal. He also served two years with the musical ride.
Upon retirement from RCMP, he served as a coroner and a licenced public investigator.
His final career was serving as MLA for 8 years for the Bulkley Valley Stikine region, from 2001-2009. During this time he received the Queen’s Medal for public service.
MacKay passed away August 14th, 2024, in Smithers, at the age of 82, leaving behind many family members. His life was celebrated Wednesday at the Legion in Smithers.
MacKay will be interned at the RCMP Depot in Regina, Saskatchewan.
