Hecate Strait Employment Development Society is happy to announce their first in-person job fair in over 2 years. According to Dawn Blake, one of the organizers, the Career Expo is expected to be big this year.

“This year’s expo has a wide range of employers, including everything from hospitality and human services to administration and industry jobs. Many employers are looking for staff right now; the labor shortage has brought on a lot of challenges. It has been hard to fill positions in many industries in Prince Rupert.”

Over 25 employers will be at the Career Expo with over 100 available local jobs to offer. They will be ready to accept resumes and hold on-the-spot interviews with candidates.

Janet Song, Settlement Coordinator for Hecate Strait Employment Development Society, believes this fair will successfully connect businesses with active job seekers in the area as they’ve been struggling to attain employees during the pandemic.

“Many small and medium-sized businesses are short staffed. This can impact business operations and their ability to serve our community. We also see many people looking for work that need to connect to those employers and businesses on a deeper level.”

CityWest has joined this effort to support all attendees by sponsoring free Wi-Fi for the event.

“We want to give them a big thank you for donating free Wi-Fi for the event, this means we can print resumes, help people with their online applications and employers can have the connection that they need to run their booth,” said Song.

Even after the event, the organization will keep their doors open to anyone who is seeking employment opportunities. Song says an exciting project is in the works that will be utilized for future career expos and fairs.

“We are going to be launching a new project that we've been working on at the job fair. Coming soon, Prince Rupert residents are going to see an exciting new tool that will be used for the rest of this year. We are looking forward to sharing it with the community.”

The invitation is open to everyone looking for a new job to attend the 2022 Career Expo on April 28th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rupert Square Mall in Unit 341.
