Air Force Veteran illustrates the impact of Remembrance Day on people

Today is Remembrance Day, a day dedicated to honouring to all our armed forces members that perished in the line of duty in addition to paying tribute to the veterans who still with us.

One of those veterans, a former Air Force Police Officer named Mary-Ann Misfeldt, illustrated just how meaningful this day was to her and mentioned how it tends to bring out mixed emotions;

“There is always a sadness about it. The ones that didn’t come home, the ones that came home so changed that they were never the same. But there is a gladness to it, they may have given their lives but we, the Canadian people, have profited from it. If it wasn’t for our veterans, we wouldn’t be sitting here, we wouldn’t have the freedoms that we have. so we honour our veterans, we love them and we still have a lot of veterans. Not necessarily Second World War, but our boys and girls that were in Afghanistan and Bosnia and the ones that are on peacekeeping missions.”

Misfeldt also had several relatives serve in the Second World War, giving her even more personal connections to the day.

She was also designated to be the veteran that took the salute during the Remembrance Day parade from earlier today in Terrace.

That parade is just one of the many events that took place around the country to celebrate those who have contributed to giving us the freedoms that we enjoy today.
