The BC RCMP has notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of an incident in Prince Rupert where one person has died.
Prince Rupert RCMP say that on December 19, 2025, at 2:24 p.m., they responded to a report of an assault at a residence located in the 500-block of Pillsbury Avenue.
Police say they arrived on scene and spoke to the complainant before proceeding toward the location of the suspect.
“Very shortly after making contact with the suspect, an interaction occurred in which a conducted energy weapon was deployed. At some point during the interaction and while police were securing the suspect, the man went unconscious. Police provided immediate medical assistance to the man until paramedics could arrive.” Reads the statement.
They say the suspect was then taken to a local hospital where he subsequently died.
Police say the matter is now under investigation by the Independent Investigations Office of BC.
