In an announcement from earlier today, the Province of BC has authorized the Golden Triangle’s Red Chris Mine to expand by transitioning from open pit operations to a block cave mine.

The announcement was made at a live media availability that included BC Premier David Eby, Tahltan Central Government President Kerry Carlick and BC Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals Jagrup Brar and more.

This expansion is being done with the intention of increasing the mine’s productivity and extending it’s lifespan all the way into the 2040’s.

This news is also being hailed as progress being made in reconciliation between the BC Government and the Tahltan First Nation.

The Priority Project will create approximately 1,800 jobs, protect the existing 1,500 permanent jobs and increase ore processing to as much as 15 Million Tonnes per year.
