Last week, the City of Prince Rupert saw the sidewalk along 2nd Avenue West, right next to the Rupert Square Mall begin to slump badly enough to the point that the Mall had to be closed down briefly.
And while the City is still monitoring the status of the sidewalk, they have since also closed down not only that damaged section of the sidewalk, but the entire area where the mall and sidewalk meet as well.
While also attempting to avoid traffic conflict with the neighbouring highway, every access point for pedestrians and vehicles trying to park on the same side as that sidewalk have been closed off too, with pedestrians being encouraged to obey all detour indications to keep being safe.
The City of Prince Rupert next said that they’d provide another update on the situation when possible.
