9 March 2026 – City Council public hearing for Rezoning 4001Thomas Street from Neighborhood Residential to Urban Residential.
The intention of rezoning this area is for building townhouses and apartments for families.
The amount of area that will be rezoned is 6309 metered squared area.
This rezoning will increase the density of people living in the area. The area will allow for up to 26 townhouses.
Many Residents showed up for the hearing and express their concerns. Some of there concerns about the increased traffic near Uplands Elementary school, disruption in views of the mountains, and green spaces.
This council is open to have the density increased in the future.
After the public hearing, the Mayor Bujtas said, “Change is tough, and the uncertainties are tough”. He continued to acknowledge that the concerns residents shared are fair.
Furthermore, he said, “the reality is, we’re living in a situation where housing is becoming more expensive. Affordability is an issue, and its harder for young folks to get into the market. So we have to make smaller lots”.
He added that there is densification is happening everywhere and that the city is not over densifying and making sure that people can enjoy green spaces too.
“We have to make sure that we’re protecting property owners, but we’re going to see more densification, for sure, as time goes on”, the mayor added, “as communities are growing”.
The mayor communicated that he hopes to add more senior homes, which is geared for seniors.
