Last Thursday night saw a vehicle collision take place near Smithers that resulted in one man’s death and two others being seriously injured.

Police learned of the collision at around 8:30 PM, which started with a grey Dodge flatdeck pickup stopping on the side of the westbound lanes of Highway 16 West, just outside of Witset, due to a mechanical issue.

Occupants from two other vehicles had stopped to help when a black Chevrolet Tahoe heading West collided with the stationary pickup.

A 60 year old man from Witset died because of the crash while another 45 year old man from Calgary was seriously hurt, as was the 42 year old Tahoe driver.

Alcohol is suspected to be a potential factor in the crash and anyone who either has dashcam footage capturing the crash or witnessed it themselves is asked to call the Smithers BC Highway Patrol at 1-250-847-3233
