Emergency room status page launches for North

In a way to better manage frequent closures, Northern Health has added a new page to their website which will clearly inform people as to whether the emergency room is open or not.

The site indicates the status of emergency department services around the Northern Health region, stating whether a facility’s emergency department is open or temporarily closed.

This provides a more efficient resource than social media, which was Northern Health’s previous preferred method of sharing the information.

This comes just two weeks after Dawson Creek resident Romeo Macabuhay took matters into his own hands, and launched “is ER open?”, a website which served the same purpose but was not affiliated with Northern Health.

Northern Health says that although emergency department closures continue to experience significant staffing challenges, overall there was a 35% decrease in the number of service interruptions regionwide in the first seven months of 2025, compared to the previous year.
