A joint statement from the Mayor of Kitimat and the Elected Chief of the Haisla Nation revealed that the two parties had met with Alberta’s Premier yesterday afternoon.
Phil Germuth and Colleen Nyce’s statement mentioned how their meeting with Danielle Smith mainly centred around the role that the Haisla Nation’s traditional territory plays in Canada’s sustainable energy development.
The statement also mentioned Premier Smith was told that both the Haisla and Kitimat were against the idea of any oil pipeline and export facility being built in that territory.
The end of the statement saw the District and the Nation said that they were looking forward to working with all their potential partners on supporting economic development and diversification in the Kitimat region.
