Terrace, BC -- Members of ICBC are going to be in Terrace to get feedback from the indigenous community in and around Terrace.
In an interview with Joanne Stone-Campbell, the Associate Director ICBC, she said, “We would love to hear from our indigenous community on some of the maybe challenges, what’s working, what’s not working, how we could best service their community if they’re urban or rural, if they’re First Nation, if they’re indigenous organization. And so we really want to hear from our people and, yeah, see how we can improve our services”.
The event is going to start with a group session and group exercises. Then they will be answering different types of questions on services and on what their needs are. They will also be listening to people as they will share their experiences.
She add that they just hired a new team and now they have a team of seven indigenous relations right now and they are working closely with indigenous community engagement and they are reaching across the province to assist those with needs.
She added further, “We’re not going to solve them all in six months. It’s going to take us a while, but at least we’re moving on these things and we’re taking them into consideration as we’re, you know, working on our strategic plan”.
Joanne then further pushed the importance of the indigenous voice. “We know there needs to be more. And, you know, you can’t do nothing without our indigenous peoples voices. I’m indigenous, so I know I want my voice to be heard in any plans that are being made within our community or for our people. So really, for people, with our people, it’s really what we’re striving to and I see is open to make those changes because what they don’t know, they don’t know. So to hear the voices from our community to share some stories, of their experience with ICBC, and creating a safe space in our, gathering space wherever we’re meeting in their community”.
The session will start at 9:30 am and end will 3 pm. “We’re going to be providing some food just to because it’s a long day. It’s a ten, 10 to 3 session. So lots of questions will be answering. But there’s no level of education you need”.
The event will be held at the Kitselas Community Hall at 1561 Kulspai Crescent, Terrace on September 17, 2026. Folks who would like to attend are asked to email indigenousrelations@icbc.com
