A beloved building that many fought to see maintained has now officially been demolished.
Prior to Terrace City Council voting for its destruction, local seniors groups rallied to save and repurpose the building.
It has significant history in the community, having been the mess hall of the hospital complex for the Canadian military in World War two.
However ultimately, the Terrace mayor said the hut had been abandoned for years now and has been in disarray. The foundation, which the city had inspected, was deemed a hazard to the public.
Without the finances to bring the building back to speed, it was deemed necessary to demolish the building to make sure it’s not a liability to the community.
