The Kitsumkalum Community Hall will host this year’s Annual Skeena Winter Extreme Ski & Board Swap both today and tomorrow.
The community fundraiser is being put on by both the Canadian Ski Patrol Skeena Zone and the Shames Mountain Ski & Snowboard Club.
The event’s organizer, Bart DeFretias, also went onto mention what typically happens at this event;
“It is a consignment winter equipment sale. It starts Friday at 6 PM, people can consign their winter items for sale, and it ends at 9 PM. Then the sale event starts on Saturday at 10 AM.”
DeFretias next provided more details about the event, like what they’re raising money for and what else they hope to achieve by putting it on;
“This is a primary community fundraising event for two long serving community partner groups. We’ve been hosting the Ski Swap for almost 50 years together. It’s an opportunity to welcome the winter season with our friends and community members. An opportunity for people entering the sport to get low priced, high quality equipment. And an opportunity for people that want to upgrade their equipment to sell their used items.”
DeFretias then listed off the various local businesses and community groups that attached themselves to this event;
“There will be entities such as My Mountain Co-op, Onion Lake Ski Trails, Terrace Off Road Cycling Association, Terrace Search and Rescue and Northern Esacpe Heli Skiing will have an information booth to promote their own organizations.”
All of the funds raised by this event will go towards both supporting volunteer first aid & rescue services as well as the professional development of young ski and snowboard athletes.
A similar event is being held in Smithers today and tomorrow as well at the Smithers Christian Reformed Church.
More information about that event can be found at the Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club’s Facebook Page.
