While the numbers were down compared to this time last year, a devastating total of 292 people still ended up passing away in BC due to drug use in May and June of this year.

Among Health Authorities, Northern Health has had the highest drug death rate in the Province in 2025 with 44 deaths per 100,000 people and both Terrace and Smithers are among the highest drug death rates by Local Health Area.

Another new part of the Coroners report included the occupations of the deceased with 22 percent of all known BC drug deaths in 2025 coming among workers in equipment operation, the trades and transportation.
