The BC RCMP have wrapped up their winter impaired driving campaign, and found an uptick of impaired drivers in the north.
Police say a total of 240 drivers were removed from BC roads in December 2025, for everything from 24-hour drug prohibitions - of which there were 8 total, to 90-day alcohol prohibitions, of which there were 89.
The number is overall down by 27 - as 267 prohibitions were issued in December 2024.
However Inspector Adam Tallboy calls the increase in Northern BC concerning.
He says that overall, drivers in BC need to do a better job of driving sober.
In the North, RCMP issued a total of 64 prohibitions, which is 12 more than last year.
Inspector Tallboy reminds motorists that Mandatory Alcohol Screening is a key tool for police and that a mandatory breath demand can be made for any motorist.
The annual Winter Impaired Driving Campaign is a province-wide effort conceived by the BC Association of Chiefs of Police.
Police all over BC use extra check stops, patrols, and other enhanced enforcement techniques to support National Impaired Driving Prevention Month.
