A brand new bench was recently added to the Howe Creek Trail, where it overlooks the creek east of the Eby Street Fish Hatchery.
This new bench was the creation of local artist Joerg Jung, who started his own art gallery called JJ’s WoodArt.
Jung mentioned that the idea to create the bench was brought to him by someone else;
“The main person behind this is Kim Haworth from Terrace Community Forest, who approached me with the idea of what could be done to beautify some of the beautiful trails we have around. The first thought was a place to rest because elderly people walk these trails and some of them are fairly long. So we decided to put in a few benches and I made several for Ferry Island and Howe Creek.”
Jung also explained that the animals featured on the bench were chosen because it related to it’s chosen location;
“The location we chose is close to a little pond on Howe Creek where there’s always ducks around. So I went with a duck theme, made a mama duck and a couple little ducklings and some ducks flying in the back.”
Residents have reportedly been giving the bench positive feedback on social media as well as in person when Jung gets the chance to interact with them.
The Terrace Community Forest provided the funds for the creation of the bench.
