Kitimat, BC — Premier David Eby was on the ground in Kitimat today, touring the LNG Canada facility shortly after a successful trade mission to Asia and the completion of Phase 1 of the project — a major milestone for what is considered one of the most significant energy developments in Canadian history.

The Premier was joined by Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions Adrian Dix , Mayor of Kitimat Phil Germuth, and LNG Canada CEO Chris Cooper, signaling a united front between provincial leadership, Indigenous governance, local government, and industry.

“This project puts British Columbia on the global map when it comes to responsible, low-emission LNG production,” said Premier Eby. “Our visit to Asia confirmed the strong international demand — and this tour today reaffirms our commitment to delivering it the right way, in partnership with Indigenous communities and with long-term sustainability in mind.”

LNG Canada is the largest private-sector investment in Canadian history, with $40 billion committed to building the export facility in Kitimat and associated infrastructure. The project is expected to contribute 0.4% to Canada’s GDP once fully operational.

The facility has created over 300 full-time permanent jobs and employed more than 40,000 Canadians since construction began.

The visit comes on the heels of the province’s $200 million investment in Cedar LNG, the first Indigenous-majority-owned LNG project in Canada, further emphasizing the government’s strategy to support energy development that is both inclusive and climate-conscious.

The tour also highlighted local impacts, including infrastructure growth, skilled trades opportunities, and increased investment in the North Coast region. Mayor Phil Germuth called the project a “cornerstone for Kitimat’s economic future,” while CEO Chris Cooper reaffirmed LNG Canada’s commitment to environmental standards and community partnership.
