At the end of this year, the Prince Rupert Port Authority will require a new President and CEO as their current one, Shaun Stevenson, will be retiring on New Year’s Eve.
The City of Prince Rupert extended a congratulatory statement to Mr. Stevenson since he had been working with their current Mayor, Herb Pond, as well as making contributions to both the City and the Port for a very long time now;
“Mr. Stevenson and I have had a professional relationship that goes back to tourism, so I’ve watched his career develop all the way through to taking on the role of CEO. He’s been somebody I’ve worked with on all kinds of projects in terms of supporting development at the Port. Rupert was very lucky to have his skill set come along when it did. And I’m sure he’s going to enjoy spending less time on airplanes and a little more time with his family.”
Mayor Pond also talked about what he believed that Mr. Stevenson would be most remembered for during his time with the PRPA;
“I think the expansion that’s going on right now. The previous CEO got us to the place where we had a container terminal and it got built. And Sean, as a senior member of the management team, was a huge part of that. but Sean’s time has been this period of rapid expansion of the terminals. You’ve got import logistics and export logistics and more petroleum products moving through the Port of Prince Rupert. That will be his legacy as that all gets built, as those jobs come and eventually the tax dollars that come from those projects will begin to flow to the City of Prince Rupert.”
Pond estimated that the effects of Stevenson’s work could continue to be felt more than a decade down the line.
As for his successor, the PRPA has confirmed that they will publicly announce who it is whenever they officially make their decision on that matter.
