Earlier today, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine made the announcement that they would be immediately suspending Dease Lake’s fire protection services until further notice.
The RDKS justified the shutdown by saying that there wasn’t enough capacity to meet both the required volunteer numbers as well as minimum training standards to sustain firefighting services.
Property owners in the affected area will get a letter of this announcement via the mail before long.
In the meantime, the Regional District is seeking out volunteers for the Dease Lake Volunteer Fire Department.
