Road Teardown at Lakelse Avenue Begins, Businesses concerned for short term

The city of Terrace started tearing down the road down Lakelse Avenue.

Business owners expressed concerns about customers second guessing entering their stores because they may not have access to parking and a cleaner entry way.

Kristin MaCormic, the owner of the Sandpipers Boutique said “There’s definitely some concerns because it could get really slow with the road being closed in”. But, acknowledges that the community has been very supportive.

Lara Roldo, the owner of Fiori Design, said, I feel that it may be a little bit inconvenient. It will. It sounds like for the next two weeks, there’s going to be full access to the sidewalk, and the store fronts. So I think it’s a minor inconvenience“.

Both of the stores will resume their normal business hours.

Both of them also plan on adding a sign conveying that their business is open and functioning.

Fiori Design has another entrance from the back of the store that customers can also use.

As for parking, customers can park their vehicles intersection of Emerson and Lakelse.

“It needed to be done just with, you know I think everything in here is old. And so it needed to be fixed. And I think there’s a lot of people who have a vision that is going to be nice”

Both of the business owners coneyed their excitement for when the revitalization is complete.

“We’ve been waiting a number of years, more specifically to the last few months. And so we’re very, enthusiastic about getting it happening not only for the, obviously the, for the people that work on this block for the whole community”, said Lara.
