A flood watch is in effect on Haida Gwaii. Localized high flows are expected due to heavy rainfall rates and rain-on-snow melt runoff in outer coastal areas near Prince Rupert and on Haida Gwaii. Hazards include swift water, road washouts and increased potential of landslide activity.

Highway 16 on Haida Gwaii is closed due to washout with no detour at Between Lawnhill Rd and Miller Rd for 5.3 km, and Queen Charlotte mainline is closed. Drive BC says construction is underway.

On Highway 16 mainland between Prince Rupert and Terrace the road is closed between Rainbow Avalanche Gates and Maintenance Boundary SA27 for 42.0 km due to flooding, as well as between Maintenance Boundary SA27 and Shames Mountain Rd for 43.0 km.

Significant rain and freezing rain amid snowfall and existing compact snow has led to hazardous conditions on roads across the Northwest

Many roads in the region are under advisories due to poor conditions and drivers are encouraged to take care and check Drive BC. Where advisories are in effect, avoid unnecessary travel and use caution.
