Continuing with our BC Election fallout coverage, we got the chance to speak with the winner of the Skeena riding, Claire Rattée of the Conservative Party. In our conversation with the re-elected MLA, she mentioned her thoughts on her party’s overwhelming majority win, what’s like to be a part of a snap election as well as what items she’s looking forward to working on, given it’s now higher chance of getting implemented;
“I think that British Columbians sent a really clear and decisive message that they were ready for a Conservative Government, that thy were ready for some changes in this Province. Our team worked incredibly hard to get us to this result and I’m proud of every single person that put their name forward to run, that stepped up, that knocked on doors and helped put up signs. It was a team effort and I’m really happy with the outcome. Snap elections are always difficult. This is actually my second time running in a snap election, so I did have that benefit of understanding the importance of getting to work really quickly, making sure that your ground game was good, that you were prepared to door knock and get signs put up. It certainly was a very quick turnaround and required an awful lot of extra work. Snap elections are not fun to run in by any means. But like I said, I’m still pleased with result. There are a number of different things specific to my riding that I’ve been working and focusing on. The majority of my work over the last two years has really focused on Mental Health and Addictions, because that was my critic portfolio. I’m looking forward to being in government now and being able to implement some of the changes I’ve been looking to see over the last few years.”
Other items that Rattée mentioned as focuses for the Conservative government included Healthcare, the economy and public safety. She then stated that the work ahead of them would not be easy, but they are prepared to do it and they’re looking forward to it.
