This coming weekend is set to see Terrace play host to an annual community event that goes out of it’s way to spotlight and celebrate the Skeena Watershed’s nature, rivers, wildlife and more.
Nathan Meakes, the Assistant Director for SkeenaWild Conservation Trust, the organization that puts on the event, told us a bit about what the event is and why it’s being held at the Tillicum Twin Theatres;
“This Saturday, we’ve got an exciting event coming up, our 16th annual SkeenaWild Film and Photo Festival. It’s the first time we’ve hosted it at the Tillicum Twin Theatres and we’re really excited about that. The festival is an opportunity for our local filmmakers and photographers to share what they’ve been up to over the past year. It’s an incredible celebration of the watershed, the communities and the stories we have here. We have a photo selection contest that has four different categories, including a youth category. And then we have a film festival, which has films from all over the region, exploring the stories that people want to tell. We’ve hosted it at the R.E.M Lee Theatre, as well as Sherwood and this year, with the renovations at the Tillicum and the excitement about hosting the event in this family friendly and cozy environment, we thought we’d host it here this year.”
After the festival concludes, the photos will be free for everyone to view on the festival’s website and the films can be seen on the Skeena Wild Info YouTube Channel.
And Terrace isn’t the only place the festival will be held;
“We’ve got four different communities that we are showing the film festival in. The first is going to be here in Terrace on Saturday. Then we are hosting in Kitimat on November 14th, We’ll be in Smithers on November 26th and in Prince Rupert on the 27th.”
There will also be a chance for people to vote on which pictures and films they think are the best, with the winners getting cash prizes ranging from $100, all the way up to $1,000.
Tickets can be found at the Tillicum Twin Theatres website.
