The Smithers RCMP recently released a community update to remind residents that the seasonal warming shelter located in Smithers will be closing next Tuesday.
The Police also used this update as a chance to explain what the closure means for the community going forward.
With the shelter closing, some people may need to find new places to stay, which could lead to residents noticing things like more tents appearing in public spaces and other means of more visible homelessness.
The statement also said that making meaningful changes when it comes to issues like this, will take collaboration and accountability across all systems.
