The Smithers RCMP has announced that they were able to secure funding from the Provincial Government in order to strengthen the local Situation Table and support prevention-focused collaboration.
The Situation Table is a group of frontline service providers that work to identify people more at risk than others and figure out ways to help them before situations get worse.
These funds were secured due to the rise in wellness checks that Police responded to.
Another reason for the funds is because the Police explicitly said that they aren’t usually the best ones equipped to respond to these calls, so assisting those who are is in everyone’s best interest.
