The Smithers RCMP recently gave recognition to a grade 12 student as part of a limited edition project that they’re running.
The RCMP youth challenge coin project is intended to help recognize local youths that volunteer with community agencies, help plan community events and/or create initiatives that are beneficial to their community.
And the first recipient is high school student Nicole Murray from Smithers Secondary School.
Murray was nominated by Smithers Deputy Fire Chief Matt Herzog for her work leading a mass casualty exercise back in May while also supporting people affected by emergencies like house fires and even attending the Network of Emergency Support Services Teams conference.
Murray has put in over 200 hours of volunteer time and the Smithers RCMP thanked her for helping make her community a safer place.
