To kick off their week, the Town of Smithers welcomed it’s own new political landscape by swearing in their new mayor and councillors.
The ones taking up the positions include John Buikema taking over as mayor, Scott Marko being the one newly elected councillor, and Frank Wray, Calvin Elliott, Genevieve Paterson, Laura Leonard and Sam Raven returning to council.
After being sworn in, Mayor Buikema proceeded to give a speech where he thanked long serving and outgoing Mayor Gladys Atrill for being a great ambassador for the Town while also mentioning that her leadership would be missed.
