This coming Friday, after going on a hiatus for a year, the Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce will be bringing back the Terrace Business Excellence Awards.
Suresh Choudhary, the Executive Director for the Chamber, recently spoke with us about the upcoming event, like what kind of award categories there are and why the event exists;
“We’re excited and we would like to celebrate the excellence of our business community and the nominated businesses. We had about 180 nominations this year from the people, who put forward about 90 businesses. We have 11 award categories this year ranging from young entrepreneurs to Indigenous business owners to the business leader of the year. The idea is to celebrate excellence with the community and with the stakeholders those businesses serve 24/7/365.”
The awards ceremony will start at 6 PM and take place at the Haisla Logistics Solution Airplane Hangar, which is at the Northwest Terrace Regional Airport.
Choudhary next explained how the process of determining the winners takes place;
“There was two phases for the independent judging. Initially, it’s open to the public so they can nominate the businesses and it gives us a list of who is doing excellent work in the community. Then the outreach starts, where we reach out to the businesses and they tell us in their own words what they do in the community, what they support and what makes them an excellent business in our community. Once we have that feedback, it goes to our directors and after making sure there are no conflicts of interest, it goes to independent judges who are pretty well known in the business community. Nobody knows who the winners are until Friday.”
All of the nominees and award categories can be found on the Chamber’s website, and tickets to the event can be bought there as well. They cost $75 for Chamber members and $100 for non-members.
