Towards the end of last week, Coast Mountain College here in Terrace played host to an event known as the Sports and Clubs Expo.
The Coast Mountain Students’ Union were the ones who put it together and Heer Patel, the Coast Mountain Students’ Union Events & Membership Coordinator, explained what happens at the event;
“It’s the Expo where the community, staff and students meet up to discover new opportunities and learn more about local clubs and organizations, which we have all around Terrace. ”
And Marina Bell, a Student Engagement Co-ordinator for Coast Mountain College, mentioned how she believes that it could be beneficial for students;
“I am a huge advocate for recreation and tourism and as student engagement co-ordinator, I believe that students not only benefit from their courses, but also from recreation and getting outside to help their mental and physical well being. So I really wanted to get a bunch of organizations here and showcase what we have, especially for all the new students.”
Various local organizations attended in order to see who they could convince to join them and some of the ones that were there included a pair of roller derby clubs, the Skeena River Reapers and North Coast Nightmares, the Terrace Curling Club, as well as the Skeena Diversity Society, a community organization that is dedicated to creating a racism free community.
This was the third year that the event was put on and given that it already grew to a point that it needed a new location, it’s believed that it’ll continue to get larger in future years as well.
