The Town of Smithers recently posted a public notice to make it clear that they are aware of a major proposal from BC Housing.
The proposal in question is BC Housing offering to establish a 25 bed, year round interim shelter in the community at 3892 Third Avenue.
This shelter would act as a temporary safe space for people who really need it, while BC Housing works on the permanent support housing and shelter at 3879 Alfred Avenue.
The Town then went onto ask residents for their reaction and opinions on this proposal, while also mentioning that they have asked for BC Housing to undertake public engagement with the community before any final decisions get made or are brought before Town Council.
