Along with the various other things that they’re doing this winter season, Volunteer Terrace has also brought back the Snow Angels program, which is less focused on gift giving and geared more towards making sure that seniors can leave their homes and one of the organization’s members, Grace Davidson, disclosed more about the program;
“It provides safe access out of senior’s homes at all times. Our volunteers go to a senior’s home when it snows, or if it’s slushy or icy and they provide a safe walkway and pathway, sometimes a driveway if needed. And this allows for older adults to get out of their homes safely to get groceries or to go to a medical appointment.”
Davidson also mentioned that the program mainly came into existence because of requests for that kind of service;
“We were getting a lot of calls, people were needing the service because they weren’t able to do it themselves. These are vulnerable seniors and we have a community of members who are willing and able to do it. So why wouldn’t we offer it?”
This program doesn’t seem to have a set timeframe for how long it will last outside of the condition that snow is still on the ground.
The organization is still looking for volunteers, be they singular people, entire families, schools, sport teams or even businesses, that are willing to dedicate their time to this program as well.
Anyone who wants to volunteer their services can do so by sending an email to ACE@volunteerterrace.com, giving a phone call to 250-638-1330 or just by stopping at their main offices on Emerson Street in Terrace.
