As has been the case in previous years, Volunteer Terrace has been running their Santa for Seniors program once again this year.
And one of Volunteer Terrace’s members, Grace Davidson, mentioned how long the program had been running for while also providing a reminder as to what it’s about;
“We’ve been doing it for over eight years. Seniors and older adults can nominate themselves or others in the community to receive gifts, gift cards or anything of those sorts. It’s a way of appreciating the older adults in the community. Most of the seniors that are getting these gifts are socially isolated and have no family in town. So this is a way of giving back.”
Davidson also said that around 115 older adults would be getting gifts from the program this year and just looking at Volunteer Terrace’s main office location, there doesn’t look to be shortage of gifts to give out to all those people.
The program usually starts in mid-November and runs until close to Christmas time.
And while time to donate the program is running short, it’s not all the way out yet and for those who might be looking for ideas on what to donate, Davidson had some suggestions;
“When people ask what they can donate, we give the idea of gift cards for Walmart, Safeway or Save-On Foods because that is huge for our older population. There’s a lot of food insecurity in our community, especially for seniors because there’s a large population that aren’t able to go out and buy food. So the gift cards that people are donating are a huge help for this community.”
