Northern Health has released this message:

Prince Rupert and area residents are advised that Northern Health Medical Health Officers have declared an outbreak of Influenza A on the Patient Care Unit at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital. The hospital is taking additional steps to prevent further transmission of illness including enhanced infection control measures and mandatory masking for all visitors to the hospital. Northern Health is asking that non-essential visits to patients located on the third floor of the hospital (Patient Care Unit and maternity unit), be postponed.

The most effective measure against respiratory illnesses like influenza and COVID-19, is keeping up to date on immunizations. Northern Health encourages everyone to keep their influenza and COVID-19 immunizations up to date and to register with the Get Vaccinated system (https://www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca/s/) to be notified when they are eligible to make a vaccine appointment.
