PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. -- Northern Health has released draft designs and animated video footage of what the new Mills Memorial Hospital in Terrace will look like.

At around 356,000 square feet, the new Mills Memorial Hospital will be more than double the size of the current facility.

Northern Health says the new hospital will be a centre for trauma services, orthopedic surgeries, pathology, radiology, clinical support and pharmacy services.

It will also be a training site for medical students in the Northern Medical Program.

Northern Health says the new hospital will benefit both patients and staff, provide new services and strengthen existing ones, support the recruitment and retention of health care workers and bring local economic benefits to the region.

The facility is expected to open its doors to patients in the fall of 2024. Its total cost is currently set at nearly $623-million.

The designs for the hospital are currently available for viewing at the Skeena Mall in Terrace, and they are also accessible online as well.

If you want to provide feedback on the hospital's new design, you can do so through Northern Health's "Let's Talk" website.
