A man has been charged with murder after a shooting in Terrace over the weekend.

An RCMP news release says on January 29th around 12:30 p.m., officers received a report of a shooting in progress.

Once they arrived on the scene, police found Dillion Loehndorf suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid until Emergency Health Services arrived and took over, but Loehndorf unfortunately died on the scene.

“Terrace RCMP were able to respond to the initial report very quickly. After speaking to witnesses they were able to identify and locate a suspect who, after several attempts to communicate with him, surrendered without incident,” said Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon from the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit.

“It is our belief that the two men knew each other and there is no further threat to the community.”

Samuel Ratchford has been charged with second-degree murder and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on February 8th.
