KITIMAT, B.C. -- A ceremony was held in Kitimat yesterday, in recognition of truth and reconciliation.

The District of Kitimat raised an orange flag in front of the Fire Hall -- and will continue to fly it for the entire month of September.

Members of the Haisla Nation were on hand for the event.

The district says the flag will be lowered following the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation September 30th.

That's a new federal statutory holiday which aims to ensure that the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools is never forgotten.
