Riverboat Days is the largest community festival in northwest British Columbia, highlighting the culture and heritage of the region. Friday night will be the opening - with the customary cannon going off to commence the festivities.
Saturday morning will be the beloved parade - and councillor Brian Downie says this year's parade will not disappoint.
"The parade on Saturday morning will be the longest parade we have seen in a long, long time. Lots of people are coming forward to be involved in Riverboat days."
After the Parade, Concerts in the Park wil be happening at George Little Park. Complete with Food, Vendors, and Entertainment. There are many more events taking place over the course of the nine-day festival.
"Throughout the weekend, we have beach volleyball, Kitselas Canyon Tours, next weekend we will have the the airport putting on a big [event], as you know, the airport's been going through renovations in their arrivals area, and they will have that open. And then on Sunday night, the last day, the last event for Riverboat days, we'll have the drone show."
This year, organizers have opted for a drone show in lieu of fireworks. Councillor Downie says Riverboat Days can't happen without community support. And he says the volunteers, sponsors, and contributors are what makes the festival great.
"One particularly I'd like to mention is PCL Construction. The company that's building the hospital, last year and this year are putting up the the big saddle tent in the park. So I really, I really appreciate the contribution all of the sponsors make to to the festival."
Riverboat days runs August 3rd to the 11th. With the forecast looking hot, festival-goers are reminded to be sun-smart - wear hats, sunscreen, and bring water. For more information on event schedules, visit the Riverboat Days webpage - www.riverboatdays.ca
