TERRACE, B.C. -- Terrace RCMP say a local man is under investigation for child pornography offences and they expect charges will eventually be laid in the case.

A news release says the investigation was launched in April, looking into allegations he was making, distributing, possessing and accessing child pornography, after a social media company flagged a number of videos which had been uploaded by a user.

Police say further investigation determined the user was in Terrace.

In June, the suspect was arrested, but he was not held in custody, and the police investigation continues.

In their news release, Terrace RCMP are reminding people online harassment and sexting is a serious offence.

They recommend people not talk about sex online or share images they wouldn’t want the world to see, because it's difficult to remove them once they're shared.

To avoid becoming a victim of sextortion, RCMP also say: don't comply with threats, stop communication with the person and report the incident to police.
