The Thornhill Fire Department will be holding an info session in January for anyone interested in joining the ranks. Captain Brent Dawe says they'll be going over what to expect as a potential firefighter.

"We're going to lay it out. What it's like to be a firefighter. What it takes to be a firefighter here at Thornhill. We're going to talk about the paid on-call model. Where you're going to start, where you could end up, when it comes to a wage, and just see if the right fit for you."

The info session will take place at the Thornhill Fire Department on January 4th at 10:30am. Captain Dawe says the department welcomes a wide variety of people.

"Anyone can make a good firefighter. Everybody can learn. It's all about coming in. You've got to have the want, and the willing. If you have the want to help your community, this is the place for you. If you're not afraid of hard work, this is the place for you. If you want to start making some money, nothing nowadays is cheap, it's extra cash in your pocket. You can take those vacations. You can use it to pay your mortgage. We're finding ways to give back to the members that give back to the community."

Captain Dawe says it's also a great way to start for anyone wanting to become a professional firefighter.

"We hold a standard here. Even if it's an individual that we hold for five years, we pay for all their training, we get them their 1001 certification, which they take with them now for the rest of their life. It's ok if they go out and get a professional job at a full career department. We're happy with that. We created a professional firefighter, and sent him to start his own career. It's amazing."
