SMITHERS. B.C. - The evacuation alerts set out by the Town of Smithers have now been dropped in some areas of the town.

As of today, the following area's are no longer under an evacuation alert:

• 2100 blocks of Riverside Drive

• 2100 blocks of Main Street

• 2700 Block of Pacific Avenue

In a release to CFTK-TV News, the town says that the alert may be reissued if the conditions of the ice change.

Smithers Fire Deputy Cheif Alle Jan de Vries told CFTK-TV News earlier today:

"The water levels seem to be stabilizing. We haven't seen fluctuations in the water level. We haven't seen above our banks. So it seems to be staying in the river channel."

Jan de Vries said that he and his team have worked with the regional district to keep in the loop.

The town is still asking residents to stay away and off the river if possible and refrain from travelling to areas that the flooding has impacted.
