TERRACE, B.C. -- There were no injuries but a home has been destroyed by a weekend fire east of Terrace.

Eighteen members of the Thornhill Volunteer Fire Department were joined by the B.C. Wildfire Service and members of the Kitselas Community as a home on Kleanza Drive went up in flames on Saturday.

The department reports that the flames destroyed a house, several outbuildings and a small pickup truck on the property, and there were secondary fires in the trees and bushes along Highway 16 through the area.

The fire actually jumped the highway and onto Kitselas property at one point, causing lengthy traffic delays on the route.

On its Facebook page, the Thornhill Fire Department sent out thanks to everyone for their patience managing traffic delays, as well as to Kitselas community members for assisting, BCAS and BC Wildfire for their help.
