LNG Canada has issued a notice to the community regarding flaring.
The joint venture says an unplanned flaring event occurred yesterday, May 6th, and lasted approximately 2 hours.
The flare height was approximately 30-90 meters and resulted in a period of visible emissions.
Another flaring event is planned to begin today or tomorrow, with more intermittent flaring lasting 12-24 hours.
Increased noise and visible emissions are expected during this period, with flares 30-90 meters high.
LNG Canada maintains that flaring is a provincially regulated safety measure and a critical part of safely operating the facility.
Recently, the BC Energy Regulator ordered LNG Canada to address instances of black smoke due to instances of non-compliance with the permit condition.
At the most recent meeting, Terrace city council heard concerns on air quality from a local physician - and voted to back a request to call on the province to undertake an independent, cumulative health impact assessment of BC’s gas industry.
