Yesterday saw the combined forces of Ray-Mont Logistics, Canadian National Railway, and the Prince Rupert Port Authority announce the grand opening of their $750 Million export logistics facility, CANXPORT.
Skeena Bulkley Valley MP Ellis Ross attended the grand opening and talked about how big of a deal this facility’s opening is;
“It’s always been a big deal. I’ve been coming here for the last 2 or 3 years and I’m always impressed at the amount of activity, and not just in terms of the export/import opportunities, but also clearing the land. They’ve got one chunk of land left, which they call area D, that I’ve been trying to get approved and I think with today’s visit, that area D will get approved.”
Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon was also at the event, and he went into more specifics as to how the facility will help us;
“Where once we used to ship empty containers back to Asia, now we fill them with the product of Canadian workers, Canadian railway workers and Canadian ingenuity. This is helping us on our way to doubling non-U.S trade over the next ten years. This is happening right now and it’s happening right here.”
Montreal-based Ray-Mont Logistics will be the main operator for the facility and various First Nations like the Lax Kw’alaams Band, Metlakatla First Nation and Gitxaala Nation have a hand in the facility’s operations as well.
